Stainless steel and aluminum work
Alejandro - phone 646-171-5207. He did some absolutely superb aluminum and stainless steel fabrication for my boat. I just used him again for the custom bimini top I had installed and his workmanship and pricing was just as good as before. I highly recommend him. Speaks fairly good English so it's easy to communicate.
Diesel Repair
Danasa Gregorio Torres Quintero no. 2288, tele - 646 127.82.40.
(From Reforma - Cortes St. east to the end, left 1 block, right 1/2 block on the right)
Head rebuilding, general auto and diesel repair and parts. I took the head with a bad intake valve for a Kubota 1 cylinder diesel to this shop for damage assessment only. 3 hours later they had diagnosed the problem, replaced the valve, lapped both intake and exhaust valves, cleaned thoroughly and surfaced the head, all for 500 pesos! Then the owner spent an hour with me searching for a head gasket in various other shops. That's great service.
Stainless Steel
Tornillos Baja California
Delant Street no. 376 (From Reforma, East on Delante, on right) 646 120.56.44
General nutt and bolt supplier. Very good stock of stainless steel fasteners.
Also, with great reluctance I'm going to release my stainless fabricator in 2 weeks. I have employed him for 6 months to help complete the refit of Gold Eagle. He has fabricated a number of complex SS parts - davits wind, etc pole, various equipment mounts, anchor rollers, stem fittings with derlin rollers, chain stop, etc. He has wired DC, AC, and data systems, installed a complete fuel system (filters, valves, alarms, etc.), re-plumbed the entire fresh water system including water maker, tank sensors, and valves, fabricated and replaced a defective water tank (2 days, $600 US total), and has become an excellent painter and varnisher as well as good friend. The man has been prompt (at least 8-5, 6 days per week), honest, loyal, resourceful, technically competent with most mechanical and electrical equipment, is learning seamanship skills and if the need arises would happily use him as crew on my boat although he lacks experience at sea. His English is marginal but improving and is using the "Cruisers Guide to Spanish" as a language reference book. He will do piece work but I have had excellent results paying him a reasonable weekly (on the Mexican economy) salary plus materials. I put him on my crew list and he has worked for me at Baja Naval and Cruise Port with few problems. I would happily act an an interpreter to get him going on another job if necessary. He has an ill child and needs income.

The owner is Eduardo Garcia, speaks good English and offers excellent service at very good rates. We had our front wheel bearings replaced at a price much lower than anything quoted in the US. We now have our oil changed for 100 pesos....we supply the oil ($15.00 for 5 Qt) and oil filter ($5.00) for an oil change total cost of around $28.00 (us)
